Man who arrived in Italy on a dinghy debuts as songwriter – Lifestyle – Agenzia ANSA

– CASTELLAMMARE DI STABIA, 14 NOV – He fled violence and poverty in Nigeria and he escaped again from Libya. Then he reached Italy, on a boat, where – he recounts – “I saw children taken away from their mothers and thrown into the sea to ease the ship’s weight”. Abdul, his stage name is Maestros, is 25 years old. Those images while crossing the Mediterranean, he admits, he will never be able to forget. But he has tried to change the course of his destiny. Today, on social media, his journey as songwriter begins with the tun Rock and his first video clip, realized by Movieland.
His is the story of a survivor. It talks about the crossing “many were abandoned at sea, among them many children of all ages, a way to force even mother to jump over board out of desperation”. He managed to arrive in Lampedusa and was transferred to shelter in Naples. Then, little by little, he started to pick himself up. “I wanted to find work” says Abdul.
Along his journey he met Salvatore Suarato, the owner of the Greenland agritourism of Castellaare di Stabia (Naples) and of the movie production house Movieland who offered him a job.
“He is a young man full of resources – says Suarato – he surprised me for his determination to be active. He has been working with me for almost two years, and now he is one of the family. Despite the atrocious experiences he lived and the difficulties, I am amazed at how joyful he is. And he is a true talent”. Maestros writes songs in Afrobeat style, a genre similar to pop, very popular in Africa.
Here in Italy he had the opportunity to record some songs.
The first one is “Rock”, where he recounts the story of two fiances, who are initially by their status and appearance but they later get together as they discover the true values and feelings. The song has its own first video which was filmed along the Vesuvius coastline. But among the songs that he has written and sung, Maestros there is also “My world”, a real voyage that has brought Abdul to Italy. The launch of the first song does not come at a happy moment however. The young Nigerian man does not hide his sadness: “That journey is terrible, many don’t make it but it is the only way to try to escape death.
Today, thanks to Salvatore Suarato, I have a job and I was able to make my dream come true, create music”.
