Law firms are relying on tech to help meet diversity standards such as the Mansfield Rule. But while tech can help with finding the right data, going beyond that is another question.

It is hardly a secret that the U.S. legal industry has struggled with diversity. But that isn’t to say that efforts aren’t being made by some organizations seeking to make the sector more inclusive.
One such example is The Diversity Lab’s “Mansfield Rule.” Launched in 2017 for law firms and expanded to legal departments in 2019, the rule tasks an organization with considering at least 30% “women, lawyers from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, lawyers with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ lawyers for top leadership roles, senior-level lateral hiring, promotions into the equity partnership, and participation in client pitch meetings,” according to the The Diversity Lab.
